Everyone knows Wandering_Swordsman, but do you know the man behind the sword?

--------------------------------------------------------

Here is Wandering_Swordsman's Interview

1. Age? Gender?

I've lived through as many moon cycles as there are bits on the golden 2D consoles as a male.

2. What brought you to ScrewAttack?

It was thanks to the Angry Nintendo Nerd that I checked this site out. Then other videos like Game Jew and VGV kept me hooked. I kept coming back over and over again until I finally decided to join. This was all back in 2006. Ah, the good old days... Back when ScrewAttack was just a wee little site...

3. What is your favorite piece of your gaming collection?

I own a case that includes the following Zelda games: The Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Ocarina of Time Master Quest. It was all in one and came with the Gamecube. Finally, Wal-mart did something right! That was a fantastic deal!

I also enjoy my Wii collection - real and virtual. Okami is absolutely fantastic, Mario Kart Wii kicks ass - so do Brawl and Galaxy. I also really love my Virtual Console collection. Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Shining Force, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, and Ninja Gaiden. Seriously, I'm in love with my Virtual Console. Where else can you have the kings of the second dimension (Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and Super Mario Bros 3... all SUPER super games) all in one?

4. Whats you favorite game or games?

Zelda: Majora's Mask is definitely my most favorite game to date for a very long list of reasons. I also like Ocarina of Time.

As well, you have no idea how much I love Okami. A little while ago, I felt as if I was dying as a gamer. I wasn't playing games as much anymore, and it really was hitting me when I just wasn't enjoying Galaxy or Brawl as much as I thought I should (they're great games regardless). But I decided to take some of my birthday money, and I found Okami. I shall never in my life regret that decision. This game alone solidified my place as gamer forever. If you like Zelda at all, you must get this game.

I also really like Star Fox 64. I can never get enough of this game. Literally, I don't remember one boring moment in this game. Even though I often repeated my routes exactly, every playthrough felt like a different adventure somehow. It always felt refreshing. I never have gotten bored of this game - and that's something. Also, I have to mention the kings of 2D gaming. Super Mario Bros 3... Damn. When I saw The Wizard, I shit myself when they introduced Super Mario Bros 3. I literally couldn't believe it. Then when I played it... Holy crap, I loved it instantly. Then there's Super Metroid. Damn. That's all I can say. Damn. My first time playing, I was already calling it a deity amongst all games.

5. Whats your favorite console?

Haha, I'd love to say the Wii for the Virtual Console (the selection of games could be better, but it does already have some of the greatest games ever on it). Though that might be cheating a little. The Wii itself I think has a lot of potential and has some fantastic games. But honestly, picking one console is very tough for me. Though if I really had to pick one, I'd for the N64. It simply has some of my favorite games of all time.

6. Where were you born and raised?

Calgary, Alberta, Canada, North America, Northern Hemisphere, Earth, Milky Way, Known Universe. I was raised as a Polak though, so English is my second language.

7. What g1 blogs do you check up on?

A LOT! I read so many blogs that it's ridiculous. In terms of the writers, I'm always looking at digitaldebaser, The_Chronicler, kain_kusanagi, and more. That includes your blogs. I'm always up for a good read.

8. Whose works in other forms of media do you enjoy?

In literature, I like reading Steven Erikson's stuff (it's not his real name, but whatever). I also like reading Edgar Allan Poe's works, and H.P. Lovecraft. There's a library-worth of books in this house (because my dad is a non-stop reader), so there's just a bunch of random stuff I read. In terms of movies, there's no one in particular that I watch for. In fact, I don't watch that many movies anyways.

9. What are some of your favorite non-gaming hobbies?

Music. Big time. I play guitar everyday, I love composing, and I'm just a big music buff.

I'm also big on sports. I'll play any sport (though I'd rather not play baseball, that sport and anything like it [such as kickball] bore me to tears). I enjoy biking and hiking. But I don't like swimming for some reason. I used to, but now it doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Also, I obviously enjoy writing. Why else do I keep on pumping out massive walls of text? I also like poetry and storywriting.

10. If your life was a comic book or video game, what would be your super power or expertise?

I'd be master of brutalities and fatalities (like in the next Mortal Kombat game... I'm not big on the series, but I've been looking at this game and know a thing or two about it). Seriously, I'd be the ultimate dungeon master. Oh, and I'm a master of stealth and speed, though that's given since I already a master of that in real life. Haha.

11. What is your favorite Subject (School)?

I can't say just one. I love mathematics. I love chemistry. I love physics. I enjoyed gym (though I'm not taking it next year because my school is filled with idiots. Plus Soulja Boy was always on during class... Sorry, but fuck it. I'm NOT listening to Soulja Boy even if my life depended on it). I like Computer Studies (Flash and Photoshop are awesome programs. I just wish I had Photoshop on this computer). I also like Electro-Tech. It's a tough class, but it was incredibly interesting. Too bad they're taking it out next year. Plus I wouldn't have any room for it.

12. Who is your favorite game developer?

Nintendo fucks up (a lot), but they've got games that define and redefine gaming. I also like Namco quite a bit. Capcom has a few great titles as well.

13. Where do you spend most of your time on ScrewAttack?

Everywhere. Seriously. I spend a lot of time on blogs, on the forums... everywhere.

14. Whats you Gamertag? PSN Name?

Wish I could say, but I don't own a 360 or a PS3. Wish I had the money for that stuff, haha.

15. What game have you spent the most time on?

I know Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 spent a lot of time in my N64. The Wind Waker, Melee, and Tales of Symphonia spent ages in my Gamecube. I also get really addicted to strategy games (Fire Emblem for example).

16. Whats your favorite game that came out recently?

The Okami port for the Wii. Fucking awesome.

17. Whats your favorite video game character (that you can relate to)?

I'm big on sidekicks, so I actually am a fan of Luigi. I'm actually like a sidekick for the mods here on Screwattack. Seriously, everyday I'm sending messages to Debaser to promote blogs, warn users for having sigs that are too big, and locking threads. Actually, it was panteraftw who originally asked me to find blogs to promote, Though I find that I have contact with Debaser more often, so I have to annoy him everyday (I may not be an official assistant-mod, but I still do my job) [Editor's Note: And I thank you profusely for it].

18. No one knows I can ____?

Somebody knows something about me, though I don't think anyone knows everything about me. Since none of you guys see me in real life, I'm honestly the equivalent of a ninja. I'm always moving around my house, trying to make as little noise as possible. I slap myself whenever I hear a creak from the stairs because I made too much noise. My friends also have a hell of a time detecting my movements. I honestly creep out one of my friends simply because he can't detect my movement at all unless he constantly keeps tabs on me. I'm always weaving my way around, and my friends often have to turn their heads several times before they can find me.

19. Whats your favorite Movie?

Seriously, I have no clue whatsoever.

20. What is one thing that you would change about ScrewAttack?

I have a topic in the g1 blogs and points section that answers this question.

21. What do you do to help think while writing your blogs?

Nothing; the ideas just fly to my head. Though if I'm on a dry spell, I do other things. I play guitar, make music, listen to music (though I do that when writing as well), and play games until I get that spark.

22. If you could go to the Iron-Man of Gaming with five poeple from the ScrewAttack community, who would they be?

The group over at Debaser's forum. You, Debaser, Keyboard_Man, Chefprotoss, and hell, I'll throw in CanuckGamer. [Editor's Note: And, just a few days after this interview, we become the DTT.org crew!]

23. What is the most recent game you've bought on the VC? What are your thoughts on that game?

Super Mario Bros 3. Do I need to say ANYTHING about that game?

I also got Shining Force. Great strategy game. It keeps on getting better after every battle.

24. Have you purchased any video game soundtracks? Why?

I haven't gotten myself a full soundtrack yet. I do download a few tracks here and there if it's something that I absolutely love.

25. Who from the ScrewAttack family would you like to see more of?

I know Nick's been busy, but seriously, he needs to show his face more often.

26. Is there any game that you would like to go in a totally different direction that it is in right now?

Right now, no.

27. What video game trailer has got you the most pumped?

None recently.

28. What game was one of the biggest disappointments for you?

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. For a game with absolutely no hype, it sure is a fucking massive disappointment. Well, it's actually more of a disappointment in the parents of the developers for raising their kids to be such fuckups.

Twilight Princess was a disappointment for me. I actually tried to not buy into the hype, yet this game lacked some key elements that I have come to expect from a Zelda game. I'm talking about characters and personality. Why does the whole game revolve around Midna?! I also really hate the last few dungeons. The first four were terrific, but the last few were garbage. There are other reasons, but I don't feel like typing them out.

29. What was the last game you used outside resources for help? Why?

Honestly, I don't remember. It's been a very long time since I had to actually look a guide for anything.

30. At what time do you like playing video games the most? (mine is Christmas time)

I can't think of any special time of the year that I like to play games. I just play whenever I feel like playing. Though I really pour in hours on games that I purchase. Whenever I buy a game (or rent), I just want to play it and nothing else.

31. What would you have like to see at the Nintendo Press Conference?

Somebody neutering that woman! She was awful - even as a marketer! I also wish they didn't spend the whole conference talking about how Nintendo rules the world. Do I give a fuck if people use their DS to order food at a baseball game? Seriously! Honestly, I'm not looking forward to anything they've mentioned. So I wish they had shown a game that I care about. Though that's just a wish, and it's all in the past. Look forward, go forward.

32. What classic arcade would you like to see as a remake?

The Galaxy Game. It is the first coin-operated arcade machine ever, and it came a year before Pong if I recall (or somewhere around there). Though it never was released outside of Stanford University, so I obviously never played it. I'd really like to see what one of the first games ever was like.

33. What game represents you?

Majora's Mask is my most favorite game, but I'm going to actually give it to Star Fox 64.

34. If you could be a on game show, which one would it be? Why?

None, really.

35. Has a game ever made you cry?

Majora's Mask has come close.

36. If someone were to make a video game about you, what would you call it?

Death to All Existence!

37. What is the craziest thing you have seen from Japan?

Their really painful game shows, invisible cloaks (seriously), and Mario.

38. What are your thoughts on the limited space for the Wii?

Bullcrap!

39. What do you think of WiiWare?

Cool idea, though the only game I'm realy interested in at the moment is Megaman 9.

40. What others sites do you attend besides ScrewAttack?

I visit The Game Heroes every now and then. I also go to That Guy With the Glasses' site. I also visit Debaser's site and offering him suggestions as he pretty much remakes the entire site (again).

41. What is going to be your next big purchase video game wise? Why?

I have no money. Though I'm looking forward to Megaman 9, and the second Tales of Symphonia. I'd also like to get my hands on some other consoles.

What would you like to say to the community?

Please read, rate and comment on blogs. A compliment is worth a hundred bucks for me. Also, please come up with your own great stuff. I seriously enjoying looking at good quality blogs. I also love how g1s are willing to jump up and create content for the site at any chance they can get. That's really something. Keep it up, guys! Oh, and keep up your good work, Dante. You're really jumping up the ladder of awesomeness. Hope to read some good blogs from all of you soon. Goodnight; don't let the Satanic Mules bite.

Also, quick note: I'm leaving this Saturday. I've been getting a lot of messages lately in my inbox here, which I seriously love, but I'm gone from this place for three weeks starting Saturday. Keep that in mind.
